The theme-park attraction game is opening its doors once again with the upcoming sequel, Planet Coaster 2.
Frontier Developments made the announcement during its Frontier Unlocked stream on 30 October 2024, showcasing the new features and rides being added.
So strap yourself in as we cover all there is to know about the Planet Coaster 2 release date, platforms, price, and more.
Planet Coaster 2 Release Date
Planet Coaster 2 will come fall this year, with Frontier Development announcing the official release date set for November 6, 2024 – much sooner than we anticipated.
With the Planet Coaster 2 release date so near, it is highly unlikely we will see any delays to the game’s release. This is supported by Frontier Development’s track record, which has shown it to consistently stick to its announced release dates.
We also speculated that it wasn’t likely the game would see a staggered launch, which has now been confirmed as Planet Coaster 2 will arrive on both PC and consoles at the same time.
Details surrounding future updates or potential roadmaps have yet to be confirmed, with Frontier Developments expressing no plans for DLC at this time, but we will keep you updated as more details are rolled out.
Planet Coaster 2 Price & Pre-orders
Planet Coaster 2 pre-orders are now live ahead of its release. The game can be purchased for $49.99 on Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation. Players who pre-order the game will be able to receive the Bonus Ride Collection.
The Planet Coaster 2 Deluxe Edition is also available to purchase for $64.99 and includes both the Bonus Ride Collection and the Vintage Funfair Ride Pack.
Planet Coaster 2 Platforms
Planet Coaster 2 will be making a splash on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam). It does not appear as though the game will have native MacOS support, but according to the game’s FAQ page, you’ll be able to access the game through Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service should you wish to play on Mac platforms.
The game will not be included on either Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus subscriptions based on statements made in the FAQ. There are multiplayer features, but they are rather limited. You can share creations with friends and work on the same project together, building on each other’s work but not at the same time under the same session/lobby, which may prove tedious.
Planet Coaster 2 Trailers
There are a total of two Planet Coaster 2 trailers available since the game was first unveiled on July 11, 2024. The first is aptly titled the “Planet Coaster 2 Announcement Trailer” which goes over some of the new features, including new themes, advanced tools, water attractions and more all in the span of just over a minute.
More recently, there’s the Planet Coaster 2 Pre-order trailer, which officially announced the price tag, platforms, and release date with a two-minute video. Despite launching on September 12, 2024, the trailer uses Planet Coaster 2 alpha footage, so we can expect the finished product to look and feel far more sophisticated when it drops in less than a week.
What is Planet Coaster 2?
The Hotly Anticipated Sequel to the 2016 Theme Park Sim
Planet Coaster 2 is the upcoming sequel to Planet Coaster, a popular theme park simulation game by Frontier Developments. Much like its predecessor, it allows players to design, build, and manage detailed amusement parks with roller coasters, attractions, and customizable layouts.
The new Planet Coaster 2 water park attractions are the biggest highlight of the game, allowing players to add swimming pools and water rides to their dream theme park. Players can choose to integrate the water attractions with the coaster rides or specialize in either one. This, alongside new quality-of-life features, shows that this game aims to be bigger and better than the last Planet Coaster game.
Frontier development has also expanded on scenery editing, allowing you to further customize the environment and the rides themselves to how you see fit. The intricacies, alongside the graphical improvements to the game, showcase the improvements made to the Cobra Engine.
Alongside new Planet Coaster 2 features come new challenges to enhance the managerial experience as players will not only have to manage customer satisfaction but visitor health as well. After the sweat, and most likely tears, shed creating your carefully designed amusement park, there will be new options to help you share your creations with friends online.
The Bottom Line
Planet Coaster 2 has been announced to launch on November 6, 2024 on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Players can now pre-order the game ahead of its release to unlock three additional rides and up to 13 rides in total with the deluxe edition.
The game brings water attractions and rides to its theme park building mechanic, as well as quality of life improvements on customization and social systems.
The game is available for $49.99 on Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation.
