Porsche is expanding the Macan EV lineup with a long-range rear-wheel drive model and a speedier all-wheel drive 4S trim.
The new “entry” Macan Electric RWD has the same 335HP rear motor (355HP with overboost) and 100kWh battery as the Macan 4, just without any front motor. The 243lbs of weight reduction gives it a claimed 398-mile range, although that’s under the WLTP testing cycle; we’d expect the EPA estimated range to be shorter. It can reach 60MPH in a claimed 5.4 seconds.
The Macan 4S, meanwhile, slots between the existing 4 and Turbo configurations. It has a new rear motor that, combined with the usual front motor, outputs 442HP (509HP with overboost). That’s enough to cut the 0-60MPH time to 3.9 seconds, or about a second less than the Macan 4.
Porsche says both Macan EV models include adaptive air suspension and PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) as standard. The charge rate remains quick, with a 270kW charger bringing the SUV from 10% to 80% in about 21 minutes.
Orders begin today ahead of delivery in the fourth quarter of the year. The Macan Electric RWD costs $77,295 with destination charge included in the US, or about $3,155 less than the Macan 4. The 4S is priced at $86,895 with the destination charge versus $107,295 for the Turbo.
The widened Macan EV range comes at a good moment for Porsche. Sales of the high-end Taycan sedan plunged year-over-year by roughly half in the first quarter of 2024, casting doubt on the performance brand’s electrification push. The updated Macan range is both more affordable and more practical, and might draw customers who would otherwise shop for an equivalent from BMW, Mercedes, or Tesla.
