Meta has previewed a host of upgrades to the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, including live translation.

During a Connect 2024 demo, Meta showed the new eyewear translating between English and Spanish. You wouldn’t have to bring out your phone to run a translation app. More languages are coming.

Video input lets the glasses provide continuous help rather than relying on your requests. There will also be more natural voice interactions, so you won’t have to say “hey Meta” for follow-up commands. New audio playback integrations add Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible, and iHeartRadio.

The glasses will also get more lens options, including transition lenses that make them viable both indoors and out. And if you’re interested in style, Meta has released a limited edition transparent version of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses (shown above) that shows off the hardware inside.

The eyewear has been the most popular smart glasses option to date, and has prompted a rapid expansion of the available styles and features, such as using Meta AI to describe what’s in front of you. While full-fledged holographic glasses like the company’s Orion prototype are still a long ways off, this and the Quest 3S could help cement Meta’s hold on smart head devices.
