Gaming phone company Redmagic has announced a new gaming tablet with an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 120W fast charging, and an impressive heat sink with an RGB fan.
Redmagic is known for its impressive lineup of gaming phones, accessories, and peripherals, such as mechanical keyboards, mice, and monitors. The latest addition is a new flagship Android tablet with a multi-layer cooling tech that promises to increase internal temperatures significantly.
Redmagic Nova: Features
Redmagic launched the Nova Tablet in China on September 5 and announced global availability later this month. Like the company’s latest gaming phone, the flagship tablet is helmed by a souped-up Qualcomm 8 Gen 3 chip version. The so-called “leading edition” has an overclocked CPU, with the Cortex-X4 Prime core pushed to 3.4GHz in clock speed. The chip is paired with up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
To match up to the intense performance of the chipset, Redmagic put a nine-layer cooling setup inside. In addition to the standard vapor chamber and highly conductive materials — part of which can be seen through a glass window on the back — for cooling, the Nova tablet employs a fan to help circulate heat through the body and prevent it from accumulating near the chipset. Redmagic claims to use aviation-grade aluminum to dissipate outwards further. All elements combined help bring the chipset’s temperature by 25°C (~77°F), Redmagic claimed.
On the front, there’s a 10.9-inch display with a 2.8K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. The display has a 16:10 aspect ratio, which gives it more vertical real estate when used in landscape mode. Redmagic also touted support for a stylus and a keyboard folio with a trackpad, though they must be bought separately.
The tablet packs in a 10,100mAh battery, though the more exciting highlight is the 120W fast charging capabilities, which surpass fast charging on other flagship tablets such as the OnePlus Pad 2. Redmagic said the massive battery can be charged fully within 45 minutes, faster than leading phones with almost half the battery capacity.
Redmagic Nova: Software
On the software front, the Redmagic Nova Gaming Tablet runs a custom skin based on Android 14 and is baked with several AI features that enhance gaming. The USB-C port can cast the display onto larger displays or VR headsets at 4K resolution, converting the tablet into a gaming console (though with Android games or streamable titles only). This is accomplished through a dedicated desktop mode and not simply by screen-sharing. Moreover, the tablet comes with inherent support for popular controllers.
Lastly, the tablet has four speakers with DTS:X Ultra codec support for virtual surround sound, a 50MP camera on the back, and a 20MP shooter on the front. It also has a fingerprint scanner—a rare proposition on Android tablets.
Redmagic Nova: Pricing
Though the company hails from China, it sells products in several markets, including the US. While the US prices and availability won’t be announced until September 27, Redmagic revealed prices for China, where the tablet starts at ¥3,999 (~$565) and goes up to ¥5,599 (~$790). We can also expect certain specifications to be limited to China and not come to the global variant.
In addition to the gaming tablet, Redmagic also revealed another Android tablet with glass-less 3D technology. The tablet, running last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, can upscale any 2D content or game to 3D using AI. Although promising, the tech is unlikely to reach the global markets.
