Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Expected Release Date, Features, Specs & Price

Why Trust Techopedia

Flip-style foldable phones continue to gain traction, and Samsung is not slowing down — with the first hints of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 emerging.

In July 2024, the Korean tech giant launched its latest flip smartphone flagship, Galaxy Flip 6, which came with laudable improvements such as a 50MP camera, a bump in battery capacity, and the introduction of Galaxy AI.

Join us as we explore the latest news bout the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the necessary adjustments we think Samsung needs to make when it brings the next clamshell to market in 2025.

What is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7?

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the next generation of flip-style folding phones from Samsung, the next evolution of a range that began life in 2020 and proved that not every phone needs to be a slab of glass.

Along with its sibling, the Samsung Fold, it shows there is a market for designs that are not a simple slab of glass — offering a smaller external screen for day-to-day jobs and a larger internal screen for serious smartphone time.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Release Date

Expected Release: July 2025

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to launch in July 2025. Samsung has been fairly consistent with its Flip line launch dates since the series launched four years ago.

Samsung usually announces its Flip smartphones in February each year. With the Galaxy Z Flip 5 released in July 2023 and the Flip 6 in July 2024, we expect Samsung to maintain this pattern for its Flip 7 smartphone. So, expect the Galaxy Z Flip 7 around July 2025.

Samsung is keeping quiet about the planned features for the Flip 7, but there are hints of what to expect.

Of the expected design changes coming to Samsung’s next Flip phone, the potential of an extra camera is the most exciting. A few months ago, Galaxyclub, a Dutch product review platform, spotted what it claimed was a new patent for the next Samsung Flip lineup, which showed a third camera — one that would provide the phone with an optical zoom capability.

Unlike the horizontal camera arrangement in the Galaxy Flip 6, the patent showed all three cameras in a vertical loop, like the one in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Considering the price tag of the Flip smartphones, an extra camera on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could be the right move.

We expect the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will launch with Android 15. Google promised that the new operating system will arrive in its Pixel phones in the coming months.

Based on this announcement and our previous prediction that Android 15 will launch in October 2024, we expect a Samsung Flip 7 smartphone slated for 2025 to come with Android 15.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, which promises enhanced performance and efficiency with its new Oryon cores.

This could mean a noticeable leap in processing power compared to the Flip 6, which came with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7: Our Wish List

When Techopedia’s Jon Fingas did a hands-on review on the Galaxy Z Flip 6, there wasn’t much to dislike about the phone aside from a lack of upgrades to the cover display’s interface, a few issues with the artificial intelligence features, the difficulty of flipping the phone open with one hand, and the absence of a telephoto lens.

This leaves us wanting more improvements in the following areas of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7:

Bump in Battery Life

If there is anything this writer dislikes about the Galaxy Z Flip 6, it’s the battery life that offers just 4,000mAh, down from the 4,400mAh in Fold 6. We hope to see an even larger capacity in the Flip 7  —enough to handle the energy requirements of Galaxy AI.

A bump in battery life would be a welcome enhancement, placing it on a similar pedestal to the iPhone 16 Pro Max,, which, according to Apple, offers up to 33 hours of video playback.

Easy to Flip

While Samsung’s latest Flip phone is sleek, Fingas pointed out that it’s difficult to flick open with one hand. Samsung can do better by making it easy to unfold the upcoming Flip 7 with one hand, making the smartphone instantly more user-friendly.

Enhanced Camera Capabilities

The introduction of a telephoto lens would fill a notable gap in the Flip series. There are already rumors about a potential inclusion of a third camera on the next Samsung Flip.

Curvier Design

While the current design is sleek, a shift towards a more ergonomic, curved frame could enhance comfort during prolonged use. This would address concerns about sharp edges that can dig into the hand, making the device more user-friendly.

Faster Charging

The Galaxy Z Flip 6’s 25W charging speed feels outdated compared to other phone models like the iPhone 16, offering 45W.

Upgrading to a faster charging speed would not only enhance convenience but also align with user expectations for modern smartphones.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 Price

Expected Price: $1,200

Given the recent price increase in the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which now sells at $1,100, it’s reasonable to expect a similar or higher starting price for the upcoming model.

We predict that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could be priced around $1,200 or more at launch.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 Vs. Galaxy Z Flip 6

Based on the leaks we’ve gathered so far, here is how the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could compare with the Galaxy Z Flip 6.

The Bottom Line

The foldable smartphone market is rapidly evolving, with flip-style devices gathering interest. If the rumored improvements for the Galaxy Z Flip 7 materialize, Samsung could strengthen its position as a leader in this segment.

An additional camera and enhanced battery life would address key consumer demands, potentially attracting both new users and those looking to upgrade.

The integration of more advanced AI features could further differentiate the Flip 7 from competitors. However, the success of these upgrades will largely depend on their execution and whether they truly enhance the user experience.
