Samsung’s A series phones may get Galaxy AI features with the upcoming One UI update.
After launching the Galaxy S24 series earlier in 2024, Samsung’s Galaxy AI features have slowly rolled out to older flagship series. Adding to this list, Samsung may soon roll out these features to more affordable offerings, notably the A series.
A recent report from SamMobile says that select mid-range phones will get Galaxy AI features. The initial batch of recipients includes only two A series devices — the Galaxy A55 and the A35. Both have only launched earlier this year. Citing its own sources, the publication adds these features will trickle down to the Galaxy A series with the upcoming One UI 6.1.1 update.
Notably, the One UI 6.1.1 is currently exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Flip 6 phones launched last month. While it is rumored to be available on the Galaxy S24 and last year’s Galaxy S23 series some time in August, we cannot verify these claims. That said, the update for the Galaxy A series devices has yet to be announced, and we cannot be sure when the exact roll-out begins. Given Samsung’s recent excellent record of sending out regular updates and the fact that both phones already run One UI 6.1, we hope it to happen soon.
Samsung’s Galaxy AI has been at the heart of its smartphone innovation this year. From Circle-to-Search to seamlessly translated voice calls and the recently-added ability to generate images using rough caricatures, Galaxy AI further enhances the experience on Samsung’s premium devices.
Slowly Trickling to Cheaper Phones
Over the years, Samsung has built a reputation of offering a consistent software experience to devices across all price ranges. However, the same doesn’t apply to Galaxy AI as some features are not included owing to their hardware limitations. For instance, the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition already has Samsung’s AI features but lacks the Instant Slow-Mo functionality, which essentially slows down videos in the Gallery using AI to give you a preview of how it might look if slowed down.
Similarly, the Galaxy A35 and A55 will skip out on some AI features. We don’t know which ones, but we can expect some generative AI ones to be left out due to weaker neural processors on the A series phones.
The report highlights that even though some older Galaxy A series phones use the same chips as the Galaxy A35 and A55, they will be excluded from getting AI features. A plausible reason for this may be ensuring an effective and timely testing and eventual roll-out of AI features to all devices across different price segments.
In addition to these conditions, Samsung’s Galaxy AI features will be free only until the end of 2025 and may attract additional subscription charges starting 2026.
