Sony has announced a PlayStation “Technical Presentation” on September 10th, and it’s expected to introduce the PS5 Pro.
The nine-minute stream begins at 11AM Eastern (4PM BST) and will be available through the official PlayStation YouTube channel.
The event will be hosted by PS5 Lead Architect Mark Cerny, who shared technical details of the original model in 2020 and is also responsible for the PS4 and PS Vita.
While the company didn’t provide any details of what to expect, it’s widely believed this will mark the launch of the PS5 Pro. The upgraded console, like its PS4 predecessor, is poised to include faster processing power and a new (and already teased) design.
It’s expected to center on a newer processor based on AMD’s Zen 4 architecture, including speedier RDNA 4 graphics. That could enable native 4K for more games, smoother or more detailed games at existing resolutions, and potentially 8K for more content. You might see more sophisticated ray tracing effects.
There’s the possibility of a detachable Blu-ray player as on the revised standard PS5. A revised DualSense controller could also be in the works.
The PS5 Pro might come in at a $499 price. While there’s no known release date yet, developers have reportedly heard that they need to support the PS5 Pro with any game released from September 16th onward. That doesn’t guarantee the console will be ready at the same time.
