Threads is following X’s lead by blocking links to documents allegedly leaked about vice presidential candidate JD Vance.
Meta stated that the links could come from hacked or leaked sources, leading to their decision to block them, as reported by Business Insider. Their policies forbid sharing content from such sources or materials leaked to influence U.S. elections. Last month, the FBI and other intelligence agencies alerted that Iran-backed hackers were trying to access data related to the Trump campaign.
Allegedly hacked documents have circulated among media outlets, but most chose not to publish the leaked vetting dossier of the Republican vice presidential candidate due to personal information. However, Klippenstein found it newsworthy and shared it on Substack and social media on September 26.
His X account was quickly blocked for breaching rules regarding the posting of unredacted personal information. Moreover, X has flagged the dossier link and blocks anyone attempting to post it.

Threads is also blocking links to Klippenstein’s Substack article. While the posts remain intact, the links are not clickable.

The reason behind X blocking Klippenstein is unknown. Before Elon Musk’s acquisition, Twitter had a now-removed rule banning links to hacked information. This was revised in October 2020 after backlash.
However, following the release of X’s first transparency report, we now know that under Musk’s leadership, X suspended 5.3 million accounts in the first half of 2024—more than four times the number suspended by Twitter during similar periods.
