In a post on Threads, Mark Zuckerberg revealed the social media app is testing customizable feeds that let you change the default.
For anyone who finds the curated “For You” feed annoying, and simply wants to see content from those they follow, this is great news, and early responses seem positive.
You’ll have the option to set up your feed however you like, including setting it to show only those you’re following. Though that will be the most popular choice for many, you can also select “For You” if you’d rather keep seeing recommended content from outside your immediate circle, or customize your feed.
This news follows Adam Mosseri’s post on Threads last week revealing that the Threads “For You” feed would soon prioritize posts from people you follow.
That news was met with wary early responses as content creators anticipated a decrease in unconnected reach, potentially making it harder for new creators and small businesses to grow their following on the platform.
Last week, Threads also rolled out custom feeds, allowing you to organize your feed around specific people or topics of interest.
These changes come as Bluesky, which already offers custom feeds, is swiftly growing in popularity. With a much smaller user base of 20.6 million, compared to Threads’ 275 million active monthly users, Bluesky isn’t yet a tangible threat to Threads. However, Meta appears to be responding to the newcomer to prevent it from becoming a larger threat.
