TikTok Adds Group Chat Feature for Easier Sharing

TikTok is adding a group chat feature to the platform for users aged 16 and older.

One of the basic features missing from TikTok was group chat functionality. Unlike other social media apps like Instagram, TikTok doesn’t let you create group chats. However, that’s about to change as TikTok is adding group chat functionality to the platform.

You can now create a group chat of up to 32 people on TikTok and share content with all group members instead of sending it individually. Earlier, when you found an interesting TikTok video and wanted to share it with your group of friends, you had to share it in group chats on other messaging apps. But now, with the introduction of group chat functionality on TikTok, the platform is looking to become a place for conversations with friends as well as an entertainment platform.

Creating a Group Chat

There are two ways to create a group chat on TikTok. The first method is from your inbox. What you need to do is go to your “Inbox,” select the “Chat” option at the top, choose the friends you want to add to the group, and tap the “Start group chat” option.

Alternatively, you can also create a group chat from a post. To do this, access the video you want to share with your friends, tap the share button, choose the “Create group chat with friends” option, and then select the friends you want to add to the group. Enter a text related to the video you’re sharing, and then tap “Send.”

There are a few rules to be aware of before creating a group chat on TikTok. First, you can only be invited to a group chat by friends or followers you follow back. Also, if you’re under 18, you won’t be able to join a group chat unless the group contains at least one mutual friend.

In addition to group chats, TikTok is also adding stickers to Direct Messages. You can choose from a long list of pre-existing stickers or even create and upload your own custom stickers to make your conversations with friends more fun.
