Sony’s limited edition 30th anniversary PlayStation 5 Pro console sold out within seconds of its release in the UK on Thursday.

The special-edition console, themed to celebrate three decades of PlayStation, was limited to 12,300 units worldwide, with only a small number likely allocated to the UK market. Priced at £960, the bundle sold out almost instantly after it became available just after 10am.

The 30th Anniversary bundle includes the PS5 Pro console, DualSense Edge and DualSense wireless controllers, a charging station, and other themed accessories, such as a limited-edition console cover and PlayStation-themed cable ties. Each console is also individually numbered, adding to its appeal as a collector’s item.

The demand for this rare console far outstripped supply, with scalpers reselling the bundles online for prices reaching as high as £8,000 just hours after the initial release. The limited edition DualSense controller, which was sold separately, also sold out on Amazon UK within minutes and is currently listed as unavailable.

The UK release was part of a staggered global rollout for the PlayStation 30th Anniversary collection. Pre-orders for other regions, including the US, were set to go live later in the day via Sony’s PlayStation Direct website, with pricing in the US yet to be confirmed.

The standard PS5 Pro, without the anniversary-themed extras, is scheduled for release on November 7, with a price tag of £699.99 in the UK. Pre-orders for this model and other PlayStation anniversary items are expected to open later this month at select retailers.
