According to DownDetector, there were over 104,000 cases of Verizon outages reported as of 11:30AM ET this morning, dropping to around 78,000 half an hour later.
Major cities affected include Atlanta, Denver, Chicago, Phoenix, New York, and Los Angeles. Areas across the Midwest are also impacted. A map on DownDetector displays the extent of the problem.
Many users commented on DownDetector that their phones were intermittently showing “SOS” mode and that they couldn’t make calls or send or receive texts.
Others took to social media to voice their frustrations over the outage, with some commenting they were losing money due to being unable to work and others asking how much compensation they could expect to receive for the loss of service.

One user on X commented that when checking the network status, a message had said Verizon “should know more within 12 hours” and that customers should use Wi-Fi calling.
They noted that Wi-Fi calling was unavailable due to the issue, and that 12 hours was “way too long” for the problem to continue.

As of yet it’s unclear what’s behind the outage and whether it’s linked to localized power failures.
We’ve asked Verizon for comment and will let you know if we hear back.
