  • You can now set a passkey as your login method for X on Android.
  • Passkeys offer more security than traditional passwords.
  • X is rolling out this feature to all Android users.

X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced that it is adding passkeys as a login method on Android.

In January of this year, X released the option for iOS users in the U.S. to log in via passkeys. The feature was later rolled out to all iOS users worldwide in April. Now, the company has made this option available to all Android users globally.

Why Should You Use a Passkey?

There are two main reasons to use a passkey instead of the regular password method to log in to your X account. First, passkeys provide a fast sign-in experience. Unlike passwords, you don’t need to remember passkeys because they’re stored on your device and created using your device lock, like a fingerprint, PIN, or pattern.

The matching passkey is stored on the server. So whenever you try to log in using the passkey method, the passkey stored on your device is matched with the one on the server, and if they match, you get access to the app.

The second and main benefit of using a passkey is that it is more secure than passwords because it is uniquely created by your device. This makes them less vulnerable to threats like unauthorized attacks and fraud.

How to Set Up a Passkey on X

Here are the steps you need to follow to set up an X passkey on your Android smartphone.

  • Open the X app and log in with your account.
  • Tap your profile icon, select the “Settings & Support” option, then choose “Settings and privacy.”
  • Select “Security and account access.”
  • Tap “Security” and then enable the passkey toggle.
  • Enter your X account password to confirm your identity. Then, choose the “Add a passkey” option and follow the instructions.

X has already started rolling out this feature, so you can expect it to arrive on your device soon.
