Reviews of the Best Samsung Phones

In this section, I have looked at how each phone performed during tests, what features it offers, and who it’s best for.

1. Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus: Best Value Samsung Phone

Starting Price $999.99
Display 6.7-inch AMOLED, 3120 x 1440 resolution, 1-120Hz refresh rate
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
RAM and Storage 12GB of RAM
256/512GB of built-in storage
Cameras Rear: 50MP wide (f/1.8), 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 120-degree FoV), 10MP telephoto (f/2.4, 3x optical zoom)
Front: 12MP (f/2.2, 80-degree FoV)
Battery 4,900mAh
45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging
Why We Picked It

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus offers exceptional battery life and performance and balances affordability and power. It’s also a solid upgrade over its predecessor, with more RAM, a higher resolution display, and a larger battery, which also makes it an excellent phone for gaming.

Features

Unlike previous generations, where the middle-of-the-pack Plus edition was more similar to the standard model than the Ultra, the Galaxy S24 Plus adopts key elements from its more expensive sibling this time around.

This includes a gorgeous high-resolution and brighter Quad HD display with a dynamic 1-120Hz refresh rate, more RAM, and faster charging.  Samsung is known for its display prowess, and I loved playing games, watching videos, or just scrolling through websites on the S24 Plus’s fantastic display.

While its camera hardware is identical to its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has new artificial intelligence-powered editing tools for photos and videos. You can easily remove objects from the background or tap and hold any video in your gallery to immediately turn it into a slow-motion playback.

While you can still take excellent photos and videos with the S24 Plus, its 50MP primary camera has remained the same since the Galaxy S22 Plus. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a better camera setup if that’s what you’re looking for.

One of the S24 Plus’s best features is its battery, which is 200mAh larger than its predecessor. Even after a full day of use, I couldn’t drain its battery even with a few hours of gaming. The S24 Plus now also offers the same 45W fast charging as the Ultra, so if it runs out of juice, it doesn’t take long to be up and running again. You should get a 65% charge in just 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus comes in two models that differ only in their storage space. Their RAM, cameras, and chips remain unchanged.

Storage Price
256GB $999.99
512GB $1,119.99

You also have a wide range of colorways, including Onyx Black, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, and Marble Grey, along with Samsung.com exclusives like Jade Green, Sandstone Orange, and Sapphire Blue.

Who It's Best For

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus offers outstanding performance and battery life, making it the best Samsung phone for the money — ideal for gamers and all-day use. Although the S24 Ultra offers a better camera setup, the S24 Plus also has all of Samsung’s new AI tools.

Pros

  • Large, high-resolution display
  • Excellent battery life
  • 12GB of RAM
  • Superb performance
  • Long seven-year software support

Cons

  • Samsung’s One UI 6.1 can feel clunky
  • No camera hardware improvements since the S22 Plus

2. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra – Samsung Phone With the Best Camera

Starting Price $1,299.99
Display 6.8-inch AMOLED, 3120 x 1440 resolution, 1-120Hz refresh rate
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
RAM and Storage 12GB of RAM
256/512GB/1TB of built-in storage
Cameras Rear: 200MP wide (f/1.7), 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 120-degree FoV), 10MP telephoto (f/2.4, 3x optical zoom), 50MP periscope telephoto (f/3.4, 5x optical zoom)
Front: 12MP (f/2.2, 80-degree FoV)
Battery 5,000mAh
45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging
Why We Picked It

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best Samsung phone yet, with its superb cameras, a beautiful 6.8-inch AMOLED screen, and all the RAM and storage you need. Of course, one of the biggest highlights of the Ultra range remains the inclusion of the S Pen.

Features

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s titanium frame gives it a premium feel, though it is fairly heavy compared to my other picks on this list. If you don’t like the S23 Ultra’s curved screen, the S24 Ultra’s flat display will impress you. It’s also well-protected with Gorilla Glass Armor.

Taking photos or watching videos on your phone won’t be an issue, even in direct sunlight. In testing, I increased the screen brightness to around 70% and could comfortably read off the S24 Ultra’s display, something that can be difficult with other phones.

Samsung made noticeable improvements to its flagship phone’s camera this year, with the S24 Ultra’s 200MP rear camera producing better shots than any Samsung phone before it. It makes colors look more natural than its competitors, and I found that it preserves a solid amount of details in dark, dim, and mixed-lighting environments. It certainly gives every other smartphone camera a run for its money, including the best iPhones and Android phones like the latest Google Pixels.

Of course, the S24 Ultra is plenty powerful, with the latest processing package and 12GB of RAM. It can handle anything you throw at it, from graphic-intensive gaming to binge-watching your favorite movies and TV shows. Excellent battery life and fast charging (you’ll get back 65% in just 30 minutes) make everything a breeze.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Pricing

Like the Galaxy S24 Plus, the S24 Ultra models have 12GB of RAM and are split into three pricing tiers based on their storage. Power users will appreciate a 1TB storage option, although that substantially increases the price.

Storage Price
256GB $1,299.99
512GB $1,419.99
1TB $1,659.99

You also have up to seven colorways to choose from here, including Titanium Violet, Titanium Yellow, Titanium Black, and Titanium Gray, along with Samsung.com exclusives like Titanium Green, Titanium Blue, and Titanium Orange.

Who It's Best For

The Samsung phone with the best camera and numerous AI photo and video editing features, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is ideal for anyone interested in photography. It’s also a superb choice for shooting video, as it can record 4K at 30, 60, or 120fps or 8K at 24 or 30fps.

Pros

  • Exceptional camera quality
  • Beautiful AMOLED flat display
  • Improved 5x zoom
  • Premium build quality
  • S Pen remains a fantastic addition

Cons

  • Expensive, especially for higher storage options
  • The titanium frame is prone to scratches

3. Samsung Galaxy A35 – Best Samsung Phone for Under $400

A Galaxy S35 with water drops on the screen
Starting Price $399.99
Display 6.6-inch AMOLED, 2340 x 1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate
Processor Samsung Exynos 1380
RAM and Storage 6GB of RAM
128GB of built-in storage
Cameras Rear: 50MP wide (f/1.8), 8MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 123-degree FoV), 5MP macro (f/2.4)
Front: 13MP (f/2.2)
Battery 5,000mAh
25W wired charging
Why We Picked It

The Samsung Galaxy A35 may not be as feature-rich as its S series counterparts, but it beats every other sub-$400 phone on the market this year. From its 6.6-inch AMOLED display to a triple-camera setup and a long-lasting 5,000 mAh battery, this Samsung phone has little competition in this price range.

Features

As the A series phone with the largest display yet, the Galaxy A35 offers more screen space than most competitors, making it a solid choice for streaming videos and gaming. Its 6.6-inch display supports a 120Hz refresh rate for a smooth experience, and the Vision Booster technology automatically adapts the screen’s brightness to its surroundings.

Although its cameras can’t match the S-series, I was pleasantly surprised at the A35’s camera capabilities, with its crisp images and vibrant colors. Its front camera is ideal for selfies, as it keeps the foreground sharp while blurring the background without sacrificing image quality. The macro camera feels like a waste, though, and seems tacked on for marketing to say “triple-camera setup.”

Design-wise, holding the A35 feels as good as holding any S series model since it borrows the design language of the flagship line, albeit with a plastic frame instead of metal from the flagship line. However, the A35 is one of the few phones in this price range to come with an IP67 (Ingress Protection) rating for dust and water resistance.

Samsung Galaxy A35 Pricing

The Galaxy A35, priced at $399.99, has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and is available with a microSD card slot for expandable storage up to 1 TB. If you’re worried about the low built-in storage, the great news is that it has a microSD card slot.

Color options are limited, too, with the choice between Awesome Navy and Awesome Lilac.

Who It's Best For

If you want an AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, and a high-quality camera for less than $400, the Samsung Galaxy A35 is the phone to get.

Pros

  • Great battery life
  • Expandable storage via microSD card
  • Good cameras for the price
  • 120Hz display refresh rate
  • IP67 rating for dust and water resistance

Cons

  • No wireless charging
  • 128GB of built-in storage isn’t enough

4. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 – Most Premium Samsung Phone

Galaxy Z Fold 6 color options

Starting Price $1,899.99
Display Inner Display: 7.6-inch AMOLED, 2160 x 1856 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate
Cover Display: 6.3-inch AMOLED, 2376 x 968 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
RAM and Storage 12GB of RAM
256/512GB/1TB of built-in storage
Cameras Rear: 50MP wide (f/1.8), 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 120-degree FoV), 10MP telephoto (f/2.4, 3x optical zoom)
Front: 4MP (f/1.8), 10MP (f/2.2) Cover Camera
Battery 4,400mAh
25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging
Why We Picked It

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a fantastic option if you’re in the market for a foldable phone. It matches the performance of the flagship S-series and has the same camera setup as the S24 Plus. Samsung continues to refine the hinge and design of its flagship foldable—it now closes flat, and the crease isn’t as noticeable.

Features

The Z Fold 6 received no battery or camera upgrades compared to its predecessor. Although its 4,400 mAh battery can last a full day, the 25W wired charging speed falls behind Samsung’s other top-notch phones.

However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a significant upgrade from the previous iteration of the foldable. It weighs 14 grams less than the Z Fold 5 and has an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance for the first time. It’s also thinner than its predecessor, and it didn’t feel awkward in my hand.

I loved using the phone when unfolded to play games and watch videos. It’s comfortable to hold, and the center crease is barely noticeable now. The only catch is that while it would have been great for video calls, the inner 4MP under-display camera is still not up to the mark, so I still had to rely on the cover camera.

Like the S series, the Z Fold 6 leverages AI technology to help you edit, create, and transform images you take or download. It’s also the best Samsung phone to use if you need the company’s new auto-translating feature, as it will display your conversation on one screen while translating it in real-time on the other.

The Z Fold 6 is also a performer. It can run even the most demanding mobile games at maxed-out settings without issue. Of course, the big selling point is that you can “unfold” the phone into a small tablet, ideal for playing games and watching videos, while the improved cover display provides a more traditional smartphone experience.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is Samsung’s priciest phone this year, and choosing a model with more storage space increases the cost.

Storage Price
256GB $1,899.99
512GB $2,019.99
1TB $2,259.99

Samsung doesn’t shy away from color options. The Z Fold 6 is available in Navy, Pink, and Silver Shadow, while White and Crafted Black (a carbon fiber finish) are exclusively available directly from Samsung.

Who It's Best For

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the best Samsung phone for multitaskers and professionals looking to maximize screen space on a device that provides the functionalities of a phone while doubling as a tablet.

Pros

  • Excellent design with minimal crease
  • Comfortable to hold and use when unfolded
  • Bright and vibrant screens
  • IP48 rating is great for a foldable phone
  • Comes with S Pen support

Cons

  • Very expensive
  • Disappointing charging speeds

5. Samsung Galaxy S24 – Best Compact Samsung Phone

A person watching a video on the Galaxy S24
Starting Price $799.99
Display 6.2-inch AMOLED, 2340 x 1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
RAM and Storage 8GB of RAM
128/256GB of built-in storage
Cameras Rear: 50MP wide (f/1.8), 12MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 120-degree FoV), 10MP telephoto (f/2.4, 3x optical zoom)
Front: 12MP (f/2.2, 80-degree FoV)
Battery 4,000mAh
25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging
Why We Picked It

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is one of the best upper mid-range phones you can get. More importantly, it’s one of the few options for those who don’t want a large device and are looking for a compact Android phone.

Features

The Galaxy S24 uses the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor as other S series models, making it powerful enough to run the latest games. Its performance is well-complemented by its 4,000mAh battery, which can comfortably last a whole day.

Although its design hasn’t improved much compared to the Galaxy S22 and S23, the Galaxy S24 supports all the newest software features Samsung offers, including Circle to Search. You can encircle anything on your Samsung phone’s screen to immediately look it up on Google, including images, videos, and text.

The phone also includes Samsung’s new seven Android version updates policy, meaning you won’t have to switch it for a different device until 2031. You’ll receive all UI and security updates for the next seven years.

One of the biggest upgrades for the S24 is the 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate range. That means your S24 will automatically lower its refresh rate as you view static images or low-motion content to save battery. Likewise, it will ramp your phone’s refresh rates while you play games or scroll to provide the best experience.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy S24 comes with 8GB of RAM and two storage options. Unlike its larger siblings, its base storage is just 128GB, which may not be enough for some, and there’s no expandable storage available via microSD card.

Storage Price
128GB $799.99
256GB $859.99

You get the same color options as the S24 Plus here, including Onyx Black, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, and Marble Grey, along with Samsung.com exclusives like Jade Green, Sandstone Orange, and Sapphire Blue.

Who It's Best For

The Samsung Galaxy S24 offers all the new features Samsung released with its One UI 6.1 and Galaxy AI. It’s not as good as its larger siblings, with its 1080p display and comparatively slow charging, but it stands out because of its compact size.

Pros

  • Compact 6.2-inch screen
  • Excellent performance
  • IP68 rating for dust and water resistance
  • Premium build quality
  • Seven years of software and security updates

Cons

  • Only 128GB base storage
  • Slow charging

6. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 – The Best Samsung Foldable

Galaxy Z Flip 6 Cover Display

Starting Price $1,099.99
Display Inner Display: 6.7-inch AMOLED, 2640 x 1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate
Cover Display: 3.4-inch AMOLED, 748 x 720 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate

Front: 10MP (f/2.2, 80-degree FoV)
Battery 4,000mAh
45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging
Why We Picked It

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 offers the biggest upgrade over a predecessor on my list, with massive improvements to its camera, battery life, and overall performance compared to the Z Flip 5. It also comes at a much lower price than the Z Fold 6.

Features

Like most of my picks, the Z Flip 6 supports Samsung’s new AI-powered features and will receive software support for seven years, making it a future-proof choice. It uses the same processor as the S series models and delivers an immersive viewing experience with its 6.7-inch AMOLED display.

Compared to the Z Flip 5, its rear camera received a significant upgrade, from 12MP on last year’s phone to a 50MP main sensor and 12MP ultrawide. It’s also the first Z Flip model to feature a cooling chamber, which ensures better performance as you play games or use it extensively.

What I liked the most about the Z Flip 6 is its user-friendly outer display, which now lets you chat using suggested replies. It also has a special selfie mode, FlexCam, that lets you use its improved rear camera for high-quality selfies.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Pricing

The Z Flip 6 offers two storage options, both of which have 12GB of RAM.

Storage Price
256GB $1099.99
512GB $1,219.99

Samsung goes all out with the color options for the Z Flip 6, including Yellow, Mint, Silver Shadow, and Blue, plus online exclusives like Crafted Black, Peach, and White.

Who It's Best For

The Z Flip 6 is the best Samsung phone if you’re after a pocket-sized flip phone that transforms into a regular phone or a split-screen device at a whim. It’s also the only phone on my list that lets you take a selfie and reply to messages without even opening it.

Pros

  • Good camera improvements
  • Can use the rear camera to take selfies easily
  • Excellent performance
  • Cover screen is more capable
  • IP48 rating for dust and water resistance

Cons

  • Slow 25W charging

7. Samsung Galaxy A15 – Best Samsung Phone Under $200

Samsung galaxy a15 on a dynamic background
Starting Price $199.99
Display 6.5-inch Super AMOLED, 2340 x 1080 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate
Processor MediaTek Helio G99
RAM and Storage 4GB of RAM
128GB of built-in storage
Cameras Rear: 50MP wide (f/1.8), 5MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 120-degree FoV), 2MP macro (f/2.4)
Front: 13MP (f/2.0)
Battery 5,000mAh
25W wired charging
Why We Picked It

The Samsung Galaxy A15 has a few premium features that surpass what its price point would suggest, like its beautiful AMOLED display and impressive primary camera. It’s one of the best phones you can buy if you’re looking for a sub-$200 smartphone.

Features

The Galaxy A15 is the best affordable Samsung phone and is surprisingly well-equipped for a budget device. Its 90Hz 6.5-inch AMOLED screen delivers beautiful visuals as you stream content or browse the web, and it includes Vision Booster.

The only flaw I noticed with the display is its brightness. Its 800-nit screen does not provide much visibility in direct sunlight, but it’s still one of the best displays you can get at this price point.

Its 50MP main camera delivers satisfying results for the price. It improves upon the Galaxy A14’s camera by having a better color balance and taking solid pictures in darker areas. That said, you’d be better off with the Galaxy A35 if you value high-quality selfies more.

The phone offers good performance for everyday tasks and activities, such as browsing the web, switching to other apps, scrolling through videos, and streaming shows and movies. It’s understandably not the best for gaming, although I did play titles like Diablo Immortal without issue at lower settings.

It’s also a great option if you want incredible battery life. The phone’s hardware isn’t as demanding, so the large 5,000mAh battery comfortably lasted a couple of days before I needed to find a charger.

Samsung Galaxy A15 Pricing

Like the other A-series smartphones, the Galaxy A15 has only one iteration, with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It is available in Light Blue or Blue Black and costs $199.99.

Who It's Best For

The Galaxy A15 doesn’t offer the best gaming performance or selfie camera, but it’s the best budget phone from Samsung this year. It is affordable, has a beautiful 90Hz 6.5-inch display, and a long-lasting battery.

Pros

  • Up to two days of battery life
  • Large, vibrant AMOLED display
  • Very affordable
  • Good primary camera

Cons

  • Only 4GB of RAM
  • Poor secondary cameras

Are Samsung Phones Better Than iPhones?

Samsung is a global leader in the smartphone market and recently surpassed Apple in US smartphone sales. However, whether a Samsung phone or an iPhone is a better choice depends on your other devices, as both manufacturers have developed robust device ecosystems.

Apple’s system is particularly well-integrated and provides seamless interaction between iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches, and AirPods. Likewise, Samsung offers its own selection of tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and GalaxyBuds that work best together.

Besides their device ecosystems, here’s how the two leading smartphone manufacturers compare:

Device

OS Design User Experience App Ecosystem Features and Innovation
Apple iOS Streamlined and minimalist

Usually, aluminum and glass

Well known for their intuitive, user-friendly UI Has a well-establish app ecosystem for integration between Apple devices

Focuses on ecosystem integration, security (like Face ID), and camera advancements

Samsung

Android A broader range of designs

Makes use of various materials (i.e., Glass or plastic)

Provides more customization options Offers Integration with Google services and apps through the Google Play Store

Emphasizes its displays (i.e. its Super AMOLED screens) and innovations like foldable phones

Which Samsung Phone Has the Best Camera?

The Samsung phone with the best camera is the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has a beautiful color balance and lets you take high-quality shots up close, at a distance, and ultrawide. Its 200MP main camera allows for stunningly detailed images, while its AI-based processing and advanced sensors deliver excellent low-light performance.

The 50MP and 10MP telephoto lenses are also improved compared to its predecessor, the S23 Ultra, and offer optical zoom capabilities of up to 5x. It also features an impressive 100x Space Zoom and enhanced stability during zoomed-in shots. Besides superb photo quality, the phone can record videos in up to 8K@30fps or 4K@120fps, making it the most versatile Samsung phone yet.

Is a Samsung Phone Good For Gaming?

Yes, Samsung Galaxy phones are historically popular among gamers, and the new additions to the S series offer some of the best phone specs for gaming. The S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra all include a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, long-lasting batteries, and ample RAM, making them a top-notch choice for gamers.

Out of the three, the S24 Plus is widely regarded as the best Samsung phone for gaming because its battery can last a full day, and its 6.7-inch 1440p OLED screen has exceptional pixel density, capturing every detail as you play. Whether you’re playing Call of Duty Mobile, Diablo Immortal, or any other demanding mobile game, its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 lets you run the games on maxed-out settings without lag or stuttering.

Is Buying Older Samsung Phones Like the Galaxy S23 Worth It?

Buying older Samsung flagship phones, such as the S23, can still be a great decision, especially if you’re seeking a balance between cost and performance. Flagship models from previous years offer quality processors and solid RAM and are generally well-built. The S23, for instance, has an identical camera setup to the S24, offers solid performance, and has a high-quality display.

Previous Samsung flagship lineup enjoys guaranteed software support for the next four years, meaning your devices will receive all OS and security updates Samsung releases in that period. Likewise, Samsung ensured its new Galaxy AI features are usable on older devices.

However, investing in older Samsung phones that don’t belong to its S or Z series isn’t a great idea. Not only does Samsung tend to discontinue older A-series models after releasing their successors, but they are usually always the same price. For example, both the A15 and the A14 launched at $199.99. Also, older devices won’t have the processing power or RAM to keep up with new features.

What is the Best Place to Buy a Samsung Phone?

These phones are available on the Samsung website and Amazon, along with other retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The Samsung website offers exclusive color options and special deals, including a trade-in deal where you can trade in any older phone for a discount on the new models. Samsung offers some of the best trade-in deals, especially around launch and pre-order periods, so they are definitely worth checking out.

You can buy Samsung phones directly from Samsung on Amazon, but you get all the Amazon perks, such as faster shipping. You’ll also find great deals on Amazon during Prime Day sales.

Furthermore, you can get the best deals at network carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. These providers often have promotions that require you to pay a small monthly fee or sign a new contract to get the newest Samsung phones at a discount or for free.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Samsung Phone

Samsung phones can be big, and it’s important to opt for a phone that will comfortably fit your hand if you prefer to use them one-handed. Larger phones can also be heavier and less portable but offer unmatched image quality.

If photography is a priority, check for the quality of your new phone’s low-light performance, video capabilities, and main camera specifications. Look for features like image stabilization and multiple lenses and evaluate its camera’s aperture size and megapixels.

Your phone’s performance determines how well it runs while you play games, multitask, or perform other activities on it. Ensure your new phone has a modern processor and ample RAM and storage to keep everything running smoothly. Consider how well your phone will perform in the future when you start using upcoming apps and software updates.

Phones with larger batteries generally last longer, depending on your activities. For example, if you plan to play games for hours, using maximum brightness and 120Hz refresh rates, you’ll need a phone like the S24 Plus, which has a 4900mAh battery. Additionally, ensure your phone has fast charging if you need to recharge frequently.

Avoid phones that won’t receive OS updates for at least two more years. Review Samsung’s update policies for the device you’re buying, and ensure it will provide OS and security updates in the upcoming years.

Opt for a phone that suits your budget and needs, and avoid overpaying for a phone that offers features you might never use. High-end models that perform better than others will typically cost more, but mid-range options might provide more value.
