The free plan makes it ideal for those after non-profit project management software, although it is, of course, capped at 5 users.

It gives you the freedom to customize your project boards for better visualization, too. However, we noticed that some custom fields and milestones aren’t included in this package.

This plan is ideal for teams managing multiple projects as its project limit is 300. It comes with various resource management features and workload management as well.

Compared to the plans above, you can create advanced reports with this tier. However, advanced billing and portfolio management aren’t included.

Overall, you’ll find Teamwork’s higher-end plans are cheaper than many rivals. For instance, Basecamp starts at $15/month. So, all things considered, this plan offers great value for money.

We’d recommend this tier for bigger teams with diverse needs. You no longer need to get a separate invoicing or billing software, for example, as this plan includes these capabilities.

You’ll also get dedicated support for quicker assistance — a must-have for large enterprises. All in all, considering you get all the features, $19 offers insane value for money.

This makes Teamwork the ideal choice for scaling, too. That said, you’re still limited to 50 approvals and templates. Whether this is a dealbreaker depends on your specific needs.

As one of the best resource management software solutions, we weren’t surprised to find that Teamwork is a forecasting machine. It’s super easy to ensure you don’t under or over-utilize your resources.

One of the most common issues virtual teams face is workflow bottlenecks — a common disruption that can be a result of improper planning. Teamwork’s resource management comes in handy here.

Teamwork gives you granular control over staff, and the work assigned, allowing you to easily identify who’s available, what projects are overdue, who’s overworked, and more.

Beyond this, Teamwork’s Resource Scheduler helps you efficiently forecast ahead of time and look back at past tasks to see how your team performed to better mitigate risks in future projects.

Time Tracker

With some tools, you need to purchase time-tracking tools separately, or as is the case with Monday.com, for example, it’s available on a higher-end plan.

With Teamwork, you get this functionality even on the free plan, which is incredibly rare in the project management space, and a real USP for many businesses that bill clients, for example.

Two basic options are available when using this feature—manual and automated, which adds to Teamwork’s flexibility to different work styles.

We were impressed to see that you can even check your billable and non-billable ratio to see whether your project is going over or under the set budget.

We found that this saves users the hassle of downloading unnecessary data, as you can just look at your Time Report dashboard to analyze how long each task actually takes.

In addition to that, team members who fail to track their time will get a notification within the Teamwork app, and logging in and out is easy. That said, offline time tracking isn’t an option.

Retainer Management

Tracking project scopes, remaining budget and time spent is challenging. Agencies and freelancers often get surprised with overruns and other issues after the project’s completion.

Teamwork’s retainer management lets you manage your overhead and other costs. You carry over unspent hours from one cycle to the next while deducting overspent hours from the next budget period.

We feel this dynamic allocation is one of the most unique features Teamwork offers that many others don’t. We found that it also comes with amazing reporting capabilities for project transparency.

It gives you a complete overview of your overall expenditure, which can help you adjust as necessary and keep clients in the loop. This is a feature many Teamwork users outline as a key USP.

You can easily edit, allocate, and adjust different elements in real-time. Furthermore, you can even automate your retainers.

Client Collaboration

Client collaboration should be a combination of communication and interactive partnership. We found that Teamwork’s collaboration features were among the most useful aspects of the tool.

You can manage access of your clients so they can be actively involved in the projects — at no cost to you. This includes being involved in the review and the approval process, for example.

This is a must-have for streamlining client feedback and preventing an endless cycle of revisions, as it removes unnecessary back-and-forth communication on sign-offs, which usually causes delays.

Overall, the level of client collaboration on offer saves time and effort for both parties. You can comment, check their activity history, and view all proofs in one place.

Teamwork Integrations

As far as integration goes, Teamwork offers more than enough. Depending on the plan, you get 15 common integrations, including  MS Teams, Slack, HubSpot, OneDrive, and Dropbox, for example.

Higher-end plans offer more integrations than the starter plans, but this is fairly standard in the project management industry — it largely depends on your specific needs and budget.

That said, compared to some leading Teamwork competitors, it lacks popular app integrations like Zoom for video conferencing, Gitlab and AWS for developers, and Figma and Canva for designers.

ClickUp is considered one of the best project management apps. As we found in our review of ClickUp, it’s great for marketing agencies with multiple clients due to its nested views.

That said, there are a lot of similarities between these two tools, including the pricing. Both offer free plans, but Teamwork offers more seats (5).

However, ClickUp, like Teamwork, also offers time tracking on the free plan,  but ClickUp is known for having a slightly higher learning curve. Overall, it really depends on your specific needs.
