How To Find Someone On Twitter By Phone Number

There are a number of ways to find someone on Twitter, now X, when all you have is their phone number, but some are more reliable than others. While using one of the  best spy apps or a Twitter viewer app will give you an in-depth look at someone’s Twitter activity, you can also use areverse phone lookup tool to simply find the person’s account.

These tools are efficient and trustworthy and can do deep searches of all public records. You can also search Twitter directly, try syncing your contacts, or even do a simple Google search. I’ll explain these methods in more detail next.

A quick note before we start: you’re probably aware that Twitter rebranded to X well over a year ago in summer 2023, and is now x.com. As the platform is still commonly referred to as Twitter as well as X, we use both names interchangeably in this article, although we probably still use Twitter more.

Method 1: Find Someone On Twitter By Phone Number Using Reverse Lookup Services

One of the most reliable ways to find someone on Twitter using just their phone number is by using reverse lookup services. These third-party tools help you to identify people based on their phone numbers by pulling in information from multiple sources. They can also reveal other insights, like the person’s name, social media accounts, location, and even place of employment.

If the person you’re searching for has linked their phone number to their Twitter account, a reverse lookup might just find them. However, keep in mind that most individuals don’t make their phone numbers publicly available on Twitter, so this method tends to work best for businesses, public figures, or organizations that have made this information accessible.

Method 2: Find Someone On Twitter By Phone Number Using Twitter Search

Another method I tested is to search directly on Twitter using the person’s phone number. Compared to the third-party options above, searching for someone on Twitter directly using their phone number is much less reliable.

This is because the Twitter user would need to publicly list their phone number in their bio or tweet it from their account, which most people don’t do—unless they are a business or organization. This means that this method isn’t the best way to track a cheating spouse or spy on your girlfriend. However, it’s still a quick method worth trying during your search, especially if you’re looking for a business or public figure.

Here’s how to go about it:

Step 1 – Go to Twitter (X)

Log in to your Twitter account via your browser or launch the app on your mobile device.

Step 2 – Enter the phone number in the search bar

In the Twitter search bar, type the phone number you’re searching for and press “Enter.”

Step 3 – Browse the search results

Twitter will display any public posts, bios, or accounts that mention the phone number. Look through the results for direct mentions of the phone number or related information that could lead to the person’s Twitter account. You can also adjust the search filters on the right side of the web app.

Step 4 – Review profiles or tweets

If a profile or tweet containing the phone number appears, click on it to view more information.

Method 3: Find Someone On Twitter With Their Phone Number By Syncing Contacts

Syncing your contact list with Twitter is another simple method for a Twitter account lookup. By allowing Twitter to access your contact list, the platform can show you Twitter profiles associated with the phone numbers in your contacts.

While this method works best if the person has made their account discoverable by phone number and goes by a name you know them with, it’s a useful trick to try, especially for finding friends and acquaintances.

Here’s how to sync your contacts on Twitter:

Step 1 – Open the Twitter app

Launch Twitter on your mobile device or web browser and log in if you haven’t already done so.

Step 2 – Go to your profile dashboard

On the web app, tap the second to the last icon on the left of your screen, then click “Settings & privacy.” On the mobile app, go to the homepage and tap the profile icon at the top left section.

Step 3 – Go to “Settings & Privacy”

On the web app, scroll down to the end of the expanded list and select “Settings and privacy.” On mobile, click “Settings and Support,” then select “Settings and Privacy.”

Step 4 – Select Privacy and Safety

In the settings menu, scroll down and select “Privacy and safety.” This option is the same on both the mobile and web apps.

Step 5 – Go to “Discoverability and contacts

Scroll down and select “Discoverability and contacts.”

Step 6 – Enable “Sync contacts”

On the mobile app, simply toggle the “Sync address book contacts” option to permit Twitter to search your contact list for profiles linked to your saved contacts. If you’re on the web app, select “Manage contacts.”

Step 7 – Input your account password

Input your password and click “Confirm” to complete the process. Afterward, Twitter will recommend different accounts based on the phone numbers in your contact book. Then, you can search to find the account you’re looking for.

Syncing your contacts with Twitter is an effective way to find someone’s account. However, as I mentioned earlier, this method comes with limitations. It works best if the person you’re searching for is already in your phone’s contact list and has made their Twitter profile discoverable through their phone number.

Overall, this method will only help you find people you know—friends, family, or acquaintances—whose contact information you’ve saved. It won’t be effective for finding strangers, businesses, or spam callers.

According to X’s Help Center, if the other person turns off the setting that allows their account to be discoverable by phone number or has not linked their phone number to their Twitter account, you won’t be able to find them this way. In these cases, using any of the reverse lookup services I discussed above would be a better option.

Method 4: How To Find Someone On Twitter By Phone Number Using Google

As everyone knows, Google is a powerful tool, and you can even track someone’s location using Google Maps. But using Google to find someone’s Twitter account or find someone’s name by phone number for free should be your last resort, as it’s the least reliable method from my tests. This option depends on whether the person has ever made their phone number public on their Twitter profile, mentioned it in a public tweet, had someone else tweet about it, or had it posted alongside other contact info on a website indexed by Google.

While it doesn’t always work, it is worth trying—especially because Google is the biggest search engine in the world. Who knows, you might get lucky to find the information you’re looking for, or at least some clues to help you find the person’s Twitter account, particularly if the phone number is linked to a business or public figure.

Follow the steps below to use Google to search for a phone number on Twitter:

Step 1 – Go to Google

Open the Google search engine in your web browser.

Step 2 – Search using the phone number and “Twitter” or “Twitter.com”

In the search bar, type the phone number followed by the phrase “Twitter” or “Twitter.com” to narrow your search to Twitter specifically and press “Enter.” You can also try searching with and without the area code.

Step 3 – Browse search results

Scroll through the results to see if the phone number is connected to any Twitter profiles, tweets, or mentions. You might come across the exact profile you’re looking for or similar ones with relevant details like job titles or mentions related to the person. Then, verify the information to confirm that it matches the person you’re trying to find.

Limitations of Trying To Find Someone On Twitter Using Their Phone Number

Using a phone number to search for someone on Twitter might seem like a quick solution, but several challenges can limit its effectiveness.

Before completely relying on this method, I suggest that you take note of the following factors below that could make your search more difficult or less reliable.

  • Phone Number Accessibility Most people don’t publicly list their phone numbers in their Twitter bios to prevent spam calls, unwanted SMS contact, or privacy breaches. They also often have privacy settings in place that prevent anyone from finding them online through their contact information. Even if the phone number is linked to their Twitter account, these privacy settings make it hard to locate someone directly on the platform or through Google searches.
  • Accuracy — Just because a tool or platform associates a phone number with a particular Twitter account doesn’t guarantee its accuracy. I discovered this while performing direct searches on the Google search engine. The most reliable way to verify is to use third-party tools—like Spokeo or BeenVerified—that scan private databases and give you additional details to cross-reference with what you already have.
  • Privacy Tracking a phone using just a phone number can raise serious privacy concerns. I recommend that you first consider whether the person would be comfortable being contacted this way. While it might be acceptable when protecting your child, it could feel invasive in other situations, especially when it involves an adult or someone else’s child.
  • Multiple Accounts – Many people have multiple Twitter accounts, meaning that a single phone number may be tied to multiple profiles. When you conduct searches using this phone number, you’re likely to get different related and unrelated search results. This can make it harder to determine if you’ve found the right person, especially without any other identifying information.

Conclusion: How To Find Someone On X or Twitter Using Their Phone Number

After thorough research and testing, it’s evident that there are several methods for finding someone on Twitter using their phone number. However, most of these methods fall short in many ways, especially accuracy and intuitiveness. For an effective solution, I recommend using a trustworthy reverse lookup app.

Social Catfish stands as my top choice because it excels at providing comprehensive reports that include social media accounts, names, addresses, and other relevant information very quickly. It searches literally billions of records to find this data, and its simple, user-friendly interface make it effortless to use.
