Turok: Origins Release: Everything We Know

Hot off the success of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, developer Saber Interactive showed up at the Game Awards 2024 to unveil Turok: Origins. The Turok franchise made its debut in 1997 on the N64, borrowing heavily from the Turok: Son of Stone comics of the 1950s. While many consider it a cult classic today, Turok failed to make a splash in a highly contested arena of top-notch shooters, with only two games being released after the original.

Saber Interactive’s surprise announcement has us wondering what kind of game the next Turok will be. It abandons the first-person perspective and leans into co-op tactics, offering new DNA powers and a power suit that you can upgrade over time.

Here’s what we know about Turok: Origins now that we’re in the new year and, hopefully, one step closer to learning more about the expected release date and potential pricing.

Turok: Origins Release Date Predictions

There is no official Turok: Origins release date so far from the developers. While you can wishlist the game on Steam, there’s no indication of when the game will arrive across platforms. Considering most games put up Steam pages 6-12 months before release, we expect Turok: Origins’ release window to fit somewhere towards the end of 2025.

This should give Saber Interactive plenty of time to polish the game’s stunning environments and dinosaur designs. If you’ve already added the game to your wishlist, you’ll be notified once the game drops.

What is Turok: Origins?

Turok: Origins is an upcoming co-op shooter by Saber Interactive and primarily deals with Turok warriors in power suits fighting against dinosaurs and aliens. You’ll gain access to a wide arsenal of weapons and DNA powers to defeat them. The latter can be extracted from fallen foes. While there’s not much known about the story yet, it will feature the Order of the Turok with multiple warriors being a part of the campaign.

The first three Turok games received remasters from Nightdive Studios, meaning that you can experience the first couple of games before hopping into Origins. If you haven’t played them, don’t worry. In an interview with the PlayStation blog, Turok: Origins’ game director notes that “players do not need to have played previous Turok games to understand and appreciate Turok: Origins.”

Unlike most Turok games, Origins appears to be a third person shooter rather than a first person shooter. Given the intense action on screen, it’s possible that this was done to better give players a perspective on their surroundings.

Expected Turok: Origins Price

Saber Interactive’s previous co-op shooter based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe cost $59.99 at launch. This helped it rack up some impressive sales numbers, especially since $70 games are becoming more common across PC and console storefronts.

While its next game could be launched at a lower price with expansions covering this difference over time, we believe that the Turok: Origins price will be $59.99. We’re hoping a free-to-play monetization scheme has been ruled out, as Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 sold over 4.5 million copies in a little over a month and did not include these elements.

No Turok: Origins pre-orders are available at this time; however, landing pages are available on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. We’ll be updating you as soon as the official pricing and pre-orders are live so you’re in the loop.

Turok: Origins Platforms

Turok: Origins will be available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. There’s no mention of a Nintendo Switch port among the Turok: Origins platforms just yet, despite the franchise kicking off on the N64. We don’t know if we’ll get to see Turok: Origins on the Switch successor, either.

But if you really want to play the game on a handheld device, the Steam Deck and Lenovo’s Legion Go have you covered. There’s no confirmation on whether the Turok: Origins Xbox variant will be on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

Turok: Origins Trailer

The first Turok: Origins trailer gives us a good look at the Turok Warriors, who will fight against dinosaurs and alien threats. It showed off a bunch of gorgeous environments, from lush jungles and mysterious temples to caves and swampland. The trailer also featured a bit of Turok: Origins gameplay footage from the third-person perspective, which came as a shock to longtime fans of the original games. A couple of weapons were shown off in the trailer, too.

The iconic tomahawk axe makes a return alongside ranged options like bows, shotguns, and sniper rifles. Players also gain access to a power suit with abilities that will grow powerful over time. While it remains to be seen how these upgrades will be earned, the co-op shooter will allow your allies to outfit their characters differently to take down a variety of threats.

Latest Turok: Origins News

There haven’t been any major announcements besides the trailer drop at the 2024 Game Awards. It showed us that the game will be ditching its first-person view for a co-op shooter take on the dinosaur-killing franchise.
