Well, gamers, it’s 2025. So here we are, looking forward to the best upcoming games this year can offer. This year promises genuinely exciting titles alongside returning IPs and much-anticipated releases triple-A releases.
This year’s game releases are far from settled, though. Because we don’t know exactly when some titles will emerge, we’ve included both confirmed and TBA/TBC titles for two ‘upcoming games 2025’ lists.
Naturally, we’ve prioritized highly anticipated games. But, equally, we’ve attempted to include some variety across genres and platforms (where possible!). Gaming is all about eclectic fun, after all. So let’s see what’s in store.
Key Takeaways
- 2025 is a year stocked with prequels, reimaginings, and top franchise additions.
- Grand Theft Auto 6 should arrive in Fall 2025.
- Top multi-player titles include Elden Ring: Nightreign, Gears of War: E-Day, and Split Fiction.
- Crimson Desert may be the best-looking game a lot of people haven’t heard of.
- All current-gen platform owners have a lot to look forward to.
Confirmed Upcoming Games 2025
8. Sniper Elite: Resistance
There’s nothing quite like Sniper Elite, which makes January 30, Sniper Elite: Resistance’s release date, a given for fans but also one for newcomers to consider. If alternate WWII timelines can tempt you, alongside some of the best sniper stealth gameplay available, then Resistance’s arrival is one to scope in on. Vive la résistance!
7. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth (PC Port)
The original Final Fantasy VII was hugely impactful for your writer. And Rebirth is already out on PS5, released on Feb 29, 2024, to praise and (probably) whoops of pure joy. To have the FFVII remake’s sequel arrive on PC will allow Windows gamers the pure joy of extra time with Cloud, Tifa, Red, Yuffie, Barrett, Aerith, Cid, Sephiroth… (oh sorry) et al. It comes with improvements in textures, lighting, and 3D models. Enjoy, friends!
6. Civilization VII
Civilization is one of those series that doesn’t quit. Due out on February 11, it is being released for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC Linux, and macOS. Civilization 7 should offer easier control for newer players, dynamic civilizations, less micro-management, more big-picture strategies, and dynamic maps. Essentially bigger, better, and more replayability…hopefully.
5. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered (PC Port)
There’s no need for a huge deep dive here. If you’ve missed The Last of Us Part 2 on the PS4 or Remastered on the PS5, you either don’t care (fair enough) or have a PC. If the former is true, we’re not judging. If the latter is true, you need only wait til April 3 for one of the top upcoming PC games. Then, you can pick up TLoU Part 2: Remastered to ‘enjoy’ Ellie and Abby’s experiences.
4. Split Fiction
If you know and love It Takes Two by Hazelight, then Split Fiction is a game you’ll want to set a reminder for immediately. Releasing on March 6, it is one of the biggest upcoming video games for co-op gameplay. Even better, it’s cross-platform, and with two players, only one of you will need to own a copy! A split fantasy and sci-fi adventure awaits, with the game’s director convinced players are in “for a f****** ride”.
3. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Expect Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 to be one of the best upcoming games of 2025. The sequel to a hugely popular title, Deliverance 2, is to be twice as big as the original while picking up the tale of Henry. As it’s a direct sequel, enjoying the first game before playing would make sense, but either way, this RPG adventure will respond to your decisions as you make your own story. Is it the best of the upcoming open-world games? Possibly. Just don’t forget to sleep or eat in-game.
2. Assassin’s Creed Shadows
The next installment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise will arrive on February 14. So, there’s a stealthily self-bought Valentine’s Day gift sorted. Should you be looking for the best upcoming Xbox games, PS5 games, or PC games, this is one to target. You’ll have two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuki, in this 16th-century Japan-set addition. By this point, the acclaim of Assassin’s Creed games is inarguable. Given this is also being released on iPadOS, upcoming mobile games should watch out too.
1. Monster Hunter Wilds
Anyone keen on upcoming Xbox Series X games should hit ‘skip’ here, sorry. As much as it’s going to be a big deal, Monster Hunter Wilds is exclusively one of the best upcoming PS5 games. A return to the world of Monster Hunter, Wilds brings newly dynamic environments where your actions do have an impact, as well as action, item, and armor improvements. Lots to look forward to. It arrives on February 28, 2025.
Games Scheduled for a 2025 Release Window
While the above titles have all been confirmed, this list is a (fairly large) one of the top TBC, or TBA, new upcoming games in 2025. Some details are lacking here, but we’re sure gaps will be filled as the year unfolds.
12. Pokémon Legends: Z-A
“Are there any upcoming Pokémon games?” you ask. Well, yes, there’s Pokémon Legends: Z-A. We don’t know much about it other than the fact that it’s planned to launch on Nintendo Switch in 2025. The announcement trailer was published in February 2024, but since then, there’s been very little official info. We’ve added it to our upcoming Switch games list for monitoring, though.
11. Mafia: The Old Country
With action and drama appearing almost worthy of a cinematic masterpiece, The Old Country will follow the tale of Enzo Favara as he commits his life to the Mafia in 1900s Sicily. There’s no confirmed Mafia: The Old Country release date yet, though. However, a mid-2025 release title has been suggested. No doubt on many gamers’ wanted lists.
10. Fable
Previously considered Fable 4, this carnation of Fable likely tops the upcoming RPG games list. The reboot will bring the world of Albion to a new generation, given the original Fable arrived a staggering 20 years ago. The world will be “filled with stories of legendary heroes and treacherous villains.” It could be we get a new Fable before we get GTA 6.
9. Gears of War: E-Day
Speaking of franchises that started a while ago, Gears of War E-Day is coming sometime in 2025, according to Xbox. Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago are back, although this being a prequel means they’ve yet to experience the events of the other Gears games. Set 14 years before the initial 2006 title, expect good old Gears action in the early days of a Locust nightmare.
8. Doom: The Dark Ages
Waiting for high-gore FPS gaming? Doom: The Dark Ages has got your back. Another prequel here, set before the events of 2016’s Doom. You’ll play as the Doom Slayer, living his origin as a demon-killing hell-hating superweapon. The existing footage offers everything you’d want from Doom: The Dark Ages except actually playing it. But 2025 is the year it should arrive.
6. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
The year 2025 may be remembered as a reboot, re-launch, revisit, and prequel gaming year. That’s fine as long as the fun comes by the bucket-full. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater doesn’t have a release date, but the official line on Konami’s Snake Eater is that it’s a comprehensive update and enhancement of the original (2004) Snake Eater using modern capabilities. Hopefully, it arrives in 2025, so new and old fans can enjoy stealth action at its best.
5. Borderlands 4
Borderlands 4 is due in “early 2025” — according to the official site. So that’s when you can take on the role of one of four new vault hunters and have all the chaotic solo or co-op action you like while seeking glory. Honestly, we’d consider this one of the top upcoming multiplayer games, yet Borderlands has enough about it, no matter how you play.
4. Crimson Desert
Not a sequel, a prequel, or a reimagining, although it was intended as a prequel to Black Desert Online. Crimson Desert loosed those shackles, though, and stands out as one of the top new upcoming games. Playing as a mercenary named Kliff, you’ll roam a medieval fantasy world while getting into pretty epic-looking scuffles – okay, actually epic battles – on a personal and wider mission in an open world, the continent of Pywel.
3. Elden Ring Nightreign
From Software’s franchise will return in a new standalone adventure, not a DLC. Elden Ring Nightreign is set in a parallel world from the events of Elden Ring and inside a procedurally generated realm called Limveld as you seek to outlast the Night and defeat the Night Lord. Prioritizing three-player (yes, three-player) co-op, it’s another upcoming multiplayer game to keep track of. But solo players; you can also enjoy the adventure!
2. Grand Theft Auto 6
The meme of what the gaming public gets before GTA 6 is strong. The most hotly anticipated game of 2025, Grand Theft Auto 6, is believed to be arriving in the Fall of this year (thanks to confirmation on a Take-Two earnings call), although there’s been no official footage since the first trailer from December 2023. The trailer shows footage from Vice City, outlandish goings-on, and social media featured in-game and focuses on a couple on the wrong side of the law. Let’s watch it again to find out more.
1. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
While GTA 6 is hugely anticipated, and it will be great, we can’t slide past Hideo Kojima’s incredible-looking sequel to Death Stranding for the top spot here. Call it controversial, call it what you will, but let’s take it to The Beach. Death Stranding 2 will deliver the next chapter in the story of Sam Porter Bridges and co as the narrative weaves and unravels events after the original title while filling out sorely missing information. A narrative and visual masterpiece is hopefully on its way even if it is only for PS5 (for now).
What Games are Delayed to 2026?
Games delayed to 2026, and therefore ones that we couldn’t add to these lists include: Human: Fall Flat 2, the much anticipated Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake, and a mysterious unknown Xbox game. That game is reported to be a major but unrevealed title originally intended for 2025.
The Bottom Line
The upcoming games list for 2025 is truly a stacked year. Not only are we (finally) getting the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6, but there are dozens of other high-profile releases for Xbox Series X, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch to watch out for as well. It looks like the current generation consoles are finally delivering on the promise of all-star software, and we can’t wait to see what else gets revealed and released as the new year progresses.
