Xbox Series X Brooklin rumors have been circulating throughout most of 2025 with us, supposedly a step closer to a reveal as this year comes to a close. Well, unfortunately, concrete information is few and far between outside of apparent leaks and speculation, but we’re bringing you everything you need to know about the console.
What’s been speculated about the Xbox Series X Brooklin console is the fact that it doesn’t appear to be a radical change from the existing string of Xbox consoles, with seemingly no added power or an optical drive. Rather, all current rumors point to the machine being a slimmer alternative to the current lineup.
Expected Xbox Series X Brooklin Release Date
Thanks to leaked documents during an FTC vs Microsoft trial regarding the purchase of Activision Blizzard, we were exposed to an inside look at when the new Xbox Series X is expected to arrive. The timeline listed in the document has the launch of Brooklin as either the end of October or the beginning of November 2024.
While these rumors had credibility at the beginning of the year, we’re now fast approaching the end of 2024, with no official Xbox Brooklin release date confirmed yet. It’s possible we could hear word in November, but equally likely that an announcement will be pushed back into 2025.
Making matters murkier is the fact that a string of new Xbox Series X consoles have already been released in 2024. These are the 1TB version of the Xbox Series S, the 1TB all-digital Xbox Series X, and a 2TB Xbox Series X console. Notably absent from this lineup is the Brooklin, further casting doubt on a late 2024 unveiling.
Expected Xbox Series X Brooklin Price
It’s believed that the Xbox Series X Brooklin refresh could be priced at $499, which matches the base MSRP of the current crop of consoles. We can gauge the pricing based on the recently released Xbox Series X 2TB, which sells for $599. It also features double the storage; however, the Brooklin’s apparent all-digital nature means it could come in cheaper.
It’s speculation on our part, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the Xbox Series X Brooklin priced somewhere in the middle at $549. This is due to the enhanced controller, which may not be sold separately, which could bump the overall sticker price up. However, this information is yet to be confirmed.
Expected Xbox Series X Brooklin Specs and Features
As we can see in the above render of what Xbox envisions the Brooklin to look like, the new console will ditch the rectangular form factor of the current Xbox Series X and opt for a more sleek and cylindrical design. While a good-looking console is always nice, it’s what’s inside that counts.
In terms of power, the Xbox Series X 2024 refresh won’t have any noticeable upgrades over the Xbox Series X. It will have the same CPU and GPU as the current model and still target the same 4K resolution for games. RAM also remains unchanged at 16GB.
The Xbox Series X refresh isn’t exactly the same internally as the current model, however. The biggest difference listed is in the internal storage, which would be double that of the base model at 2TB. This is important because the Broklin will have no disc drive — so all games will need to be stored on the hard drive.
Bundled in with the Brooklin will be all the standard cords and cables you expect, but instead of the standard controller, we will get an Xbox Series X refresh controller codenamed Sebile. This is meant to launch before the new console and be the new standard controller for Xbox moving forward. This controller will be able to connect via Bluetooth 5.2 and Xbox Wireless 2 to your console or directly to the Cloud.

Some upgrades this controller is expected to have include haptic feedback, an accelerometer, and both a rechargeable and replaceable battery.
Another small change to the internals is the upgrade to WiFi 6E support. This would make playing and downloading games via WiFi more stable and potentially improve performance.

Will the Xbox Series X Refresh Play Physical Games?
No, the render of the Brooklin shows a cylindrical console without a disc drive. This would mean that the only way to purchase or play games on the system would be digitally or via the cloud.
The increased storage space to 2TB and upgraded WiFi connector were no doubt chosen to make this transition away from physical media easier. However, those without a reliable internet connection or who prefer to purchase their games physically won’t be given that option here.
The Bottom Line
Based on everything we’ve seen and heard about the Xbox Series X Brooklin refresh, the console could be a mild step up from the original hardware in terms of design and storage but not in performance.
Ultimately, the pricing and the functionality of the leaked “Sebile” controller are going to be what puts the Brooklin over the edge. As an apparent all-digital machine, it runs the risk of needing to compete with not only the Xbox Series S 1TB but also the Xbox Series X 1TB at $449, which debuted earlier this year.
